The Langley Open 2010 Preview

The crow shrieks a haunting cry across the fields, waking to a chilly morning with the hot balmy days now just a distant memory. An eerie calm fills the area as the low cloud cover fails to disperse.

This can mean only one thing….The Langley Open is about to come to town!

Not a shot has been hit on the immaculate fairways that have been meticulously worked on over the last four months; such is the importance of this event to Five Lakes Golf and Country Club. Rumours of the event moving on from this venue for 2011 appear to have increased their efforts particularly with the Links course which was heavily criticised last year.

So what has 2010 to offer the golfing world? Well controversy as usual is always in the air and this year is no exception with the re-introduction of a handicap system. However this should ensure one of the closest Langley Open’s in its history.

The form book has Harris on fire, only his crippling handicap stands between him winning his second title.

Lacey has proved to be always there or thereabouts, the way he kept chasing Ross last year will be remembered for a long time. However there are continued question marks with his ‘gamesmanship’ tactics. A recent practice round saw him give himself a free drop ball, claiming a player in the group in front picked his up. We have now had ‘water bottle gate’ ‘Deano’s ball gate’ and ‘picked up ball gate’, fears are that it will not be ‘a long wait’ before he pulls another trick from his sleeve.

Marsden has not had a good time of it over recent years, however the handicap system will be a huge boost to his chances and confidence, his third title is on.

This leaves us with the Champion Ross. His final round last year will live long in the memory, will he be able to find the ‘zone’ again this year? If he does he has a great chance to be the first player to win back to back titles.

So many questions, but what is for sure, 2010 promises to be some year in the history of this great tournament.
